Pałubicki Reaches Lublin Region on Vistula Swim

Jacek Pałubicki reached Lublin Region while swimming the Vistula River, praised locals and highlighted FASD support.

Jacek Pałubicki reached the Lublin Voivodeship on Wednesday while swimming the Vistula River. He called the day “incredible” and thanked locals who helped him along the route.

Why the journey matters

Pałubicki aims to swim the full length of the Vistula. Consequently, he faces strong currents, cold water, and heavy river traffic. Moreover, a support team follows him by boat. They provide logistics, food, and safety. Therefore, the challenge tests endurance and planning. In addition, his trip promotes awareness for children affected by FAS and FASD. This focus gives the swim social purpose beyond sport.

Local scenes during swimming the Vistula River

On the Lublin stretch he praised the river views. Kazimierz Dolny looked magical from the water. Moreover, the town’s historic buildings and loess hills created a fairy-tale scene. Pałubicki also noted warm hospitality. People greeted him with pancakes and homemade compote. In Puławy a rescue team from WOPR surprised him on the water. They photographed him and escorted him under the bridge. In addition, a local swimmer joined him from Puławy to Dęblin.

Support and community response

Organisers in Dęblin welcomed him warmly. The deputy mayor, volunteer firefighters from Zosin, and the Municipal Cultural Centre assisted. They offered a shower, laundry, fridge, charging points, and a dry place to sleep. Moreover, they prepared an evening meal. Consequently, the logistical support helped him recover for the next day. In addition, the friendly reception shows how river towns support grassroots projects. This local backing keeps such solitary efforts possible.

What expats should know about local services and terms

When you live in Poland, small terms matter. For example, NFZ refers to the National Health Fund (public health insurer). Similarly, ZUS is the Social Insurance Institution that handles pensions and benefits. Also, a PESEL is the national ID number you need for many services. Finally, a “mandat” simply means a fine, usually issued by police for minor breaches.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you want to follow or support local initiatives, contact municipal offices (Urząd Miasta) or local NGOs. Moreover, many towns publish event details online. In addition, basic Polish helps, but people often speak some English in tourist towns. Finally, respect river safety rules and ask locals about current conditions.

Pałubicki described the Lublin day as emotional. He thanked everyone who cheered him on and helped along the river. Therefore, he seems ready for the next stages of his journey. His swim combines athletic ambition with a campaign for families affected by prenatal alcohol exposure. Consequently, the voyage attracts attention to both sport and social causes.
