Amphetamines seizure in Lublin led to charges against 14 people, with drugs worth over 80 million złoty.

Police in Lublin have charged 14 people after they uncovered what could be an amphetamines seizure linked to a large criminal network. Consequently, investigators say the group produced more than a tonne of amphetamine and distributed drugs worth over 80 million złoty.

Amphetamines seizure: scale and evidence

Police from the Anti-Narcotics Unit of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Lublin led the multi-year probe. Moreover, investigators focused on activity between 2019 and 2023. They found and shut down an amphetamine laboratory in Lublin. In addition, officers seized nearly 5 kg of cannabis, over 5 kg of solid amphetamine, and 4 litres of liquid amphetamine from rented premises. Furthermore, they secured more than 1 kg of mephedrone and klefedrone.

However, the full investigation suggests a far larger operation. Prosecutors say the group may have produced over one tonne of amphetamine. Moreover, they reportedly traded more than 60 kg of amphetamine sulfate. They also moved about 70 litres of liquid amphetamine, nearly 900 kg of cannabis, and over 40 kg of mephedrone and klefedrone. Therefore, the authorities estimate the black market value at over 80 million złoty.

How the operation unfolded

Investigators arrested a mix of men and women aged 22 to 55. Consequently, they charged 14 people with a total of 56 offences. Nine suspects entered pre-trial detention. The others face freedom-limiting conditions. Prosecutors froze assets worth over 400,000 złoty to secure future fines and penalties. In addition, the case proceeded under the supervision of the Lublin branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office for Organised Crime and Corruption.

Legal consequences and what the charges mean

Polish law treats organised drug crimes severely. For example, membership in an organised criminal group carries up to eight years in prison. Moreover, leading such a group can bring up to 15 years. In addition, distributing significant amounts of drugs can mean up to 12 years behind bars. Therefore, defendants face heavy potential sentences if convicted.

Regional context and policing

The Lublin region faces ongoing issues with synthetic drugs and cannabis cultivation. Last year, police dismantled over 57 cannabis plantations in the voivodeship. Moreover, officers closed two large synthetic drug labs. In addition, they detained over 900 suspects and seized more than 280 kg of narcotics last year alone. Consequently, the force says every operation prevents drugs reaching schools, clubs, and streets.
