Orlen Narodowy: Warsaw National Stadium Renamed
From November, the National Stadium becomes Orlen Narodowy under a record sponsorship deal worth over PLN 10m yearly.
From November, Warsaw’s National Stadium will change its name to Orlen Narodowy, ending the PGE era. Moreover, the state-controlled sponsor will pay more than PLN 10 million each year. Consequently, the stadium will receive a full rebrand before international matches this autumn.
Why the Orlen Narodowy renaming matters
The title sponsorship sets a new market benchmark. In addition, the annual fee exceeds PLN 10 million. Therefore, the deal helps cover rising maintenance and energy costs. The stadium operator PL.2012+ must maximise revenue under Polish public asset rules. Moreover, the firm answers to the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. As a result, the operator chose the highest commercial offer.
Financially, the agreement reflects the stadium’s advertising equivalent value. Independent estimates place that value above PLN 80 million yearly. Consequently, naming rights became a crucial income stream. The operator uses such revenues to fund turf care, technical upgrades, and utilities. However, ticketing systems and accreditation templates also require quick changes.
Practical changes for fans and the neighbourhood
Workers will replace the PGE neon with a large Orlen sign on the Poniatowski Avenue façade. Moreover, contractors will install new LED lighting on the side facing Saska Kępa. The sponsor promises energy-efficient units that cut power use by roughly 25 percent. In addition, digital and printed tickets will show new gate names and logos. Therefore, transport announcements and signage might change around Rondo Waszyngtona.
For match days, expect updated access routes and rebranded entry gates. Moreover, the operator will re-label turnstiles, gates, and direction boards. Consequently, mobile ticket templates and paper stubs will look different. The city will coordinate tram and train information to help visitors. In addition, Metro line II offers fast access to Metro Stadion Narodowy station.
State sponsors and marketing strategy
Orlen’s move fits a wider sponsorship plan. The company already backs Poland’s national football team and athletics. Therefore, combining team sponsorship with stadium naming drives consistent brand messaging. Analysts say the synergy will let the company host fan zones near the stadium. Moreover, the state transfer of rights from PGE aims to keep the venue financially stable. As a result, the stadium should avoid investment pauses.
Local residents on Saska Kępa and Kamionek will see new outside lighting and signage. In addition, the operator expects the works to finish before November events. Media crews must use new broadcast graphics and accreditations. Therefore, international transmissions will show the Orlen brand from the first televised match. The rebranding also signals how state firms use commercial rights to fund public assets.
