Nearly 3 kg of drugs seized in Biała Podlaska car search

Police in Biała Podlaska report nearly 3 kg of drugs seized after a vehicle stop; two men arrested and held in pre-trial detention.

Police in Biała Podlaska report that nearly 3 kg of drugs seized after a routine vehicle stop led to further searches and two arrests. Consequently, the county court ordered temporary detention for both suspects on Friday. The move followed requests from the police and the public prosecutor.

nearly 3 kg of drugs seized in vehicle and homes

Investigators stopped a car last week. Moreover, officers found about one kilogram of plant material during the vehicle check. In addition, a field test indicated the substance was marijuana. Therefore, detectives searched the homes of both men. Also, they recovered more controlled substances there. Officers seized mephedrone, ecstasy and hallucinogenic mushrooms. Altogether, law enforcement recovered nearly 3 kg of drugs from the car and the residences.

Police arrested a 21-year-old driver and a 25-year-old passenger. However, investigators suspect the younger man drove under the influence. Consequently, officers performed a preliminary test that showed drugs in his system. In addition, they took a blood sample for laboratory confirmation. Therefore, the younger suspect faces charges for driving under the influence of narcotics and possession of a significant amount of drugs. Meanwhile, the older man faces charges for possessing large quantities of psychoactive substances.

What the charges mean under Polish law

Polish prosecutors treat possession of a large amount of drugs seriously. Moreover, the accused can face up to ten years in prison for the alleged offences. In addition, courts may impose pre-trial detention when they view flight or collusion risk. Therefore, the court in Biała Podlaska placed both men in custody. Also, suspects retain the right to defense and to appeal the detention decision.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: In Poland, police stops can lead to house searches if officers find evidence. Therefore, carry ID (a passport or a PESEL if you have one). Also, expect officers to check documents and to detain suspects briefly. Moreover, driving under the influence of drugs triggers immediate tests and may involve blood sampling. If you need legal help, contact a lawyer quickly. Finally, remember that everyday Polish terms like “mandat” mean a fine, “ZUS” refers to the social insurance institution, and “NFZ” to the public health fund.

Expat readers should note the local policing style. Police often act quickly and follow strict procedures. Consequently, ask for a lawyer if you face charges. In addition, contact your embassy if you are a foreign national. Also, keep records of interactions and copies of any official documents. Moreover, language barriers can complicate police interviews, so request a translator when needed.

Local residents and expats follow the case closely. Furthermore, the seizure highlights growing concerns about drug distribution in smaller cities. Therefore, community groups and local authorities may pursue prevention efforts. In addition, anyone with information can contact local police anonymously. Finally, courts will now await forensic lab results and proceed with formal indictments.
