Major Summer Tram Works at Kino Femina Junction

Kino Femina tram junction works start June 29, altering traffic and tram routes. Expect detours, temporary stops, and replacement buses.

The city begins the Kino Femina tram junction works on Monday, June 29. Consequently, drivers and pedestrians will face changed traffic patterns near Aleja “Solidarności” and Aleja Jana Pawła II.

Kino Femina tram junction works: what is changing

The tram operator will replace rails, switches and turnouts at the busy intersection. Moreover, crews will resurface crossings and upgrade stops. Therefore, the center of the junction will close to vehicles. Also, cars will not cross tram tracks at the junction. From every direction, drivers will turn right using two lanes for that movement.

Traffic detours and driver guidance

Workers will mark temporary U-turns near the Church of the Nativity, before Nowolipie Street, by a grocery shop, and before Ogrodowa Street. In addition, the U-turn points on Aleja “Solidarności” will offer two lanes for turning and one lane to go straight. However, on Aleja Jana Pawła II, one lane will go straight, one will serve straight or U-turn, and one will only allow a U-turn. Consequently, motorists should follow temporary signs and prepare for lane changes.

Between Okopowa and Żelazna, the crews will close the left lanes of both carriageways. Therefore, traffic will operate in two lanes in both directions. Moreover, the city will place electronic boards on main approaches. For example, signs from Wola will direct drivers via Okopowa to Słomińskiego or via Towarowa to Prosta and Aleje Jerozolimskie. From Żoliborz, drivers can use Słomińskiego and Wisłostrada. In addition, Praga and Mokotów will get recommended routes listed on boards.

Changes to tram services and alternatives

The works run in two stages. In the first stage, until early August, trams will not run along Aleja “Solidarności” from Kercelak to Femina. Moreover, they will not use Aleja Jana Pawła II from Stawki to Femina. However, trams will still cross between Plac Bankowy and Rondo ONZ. Also, temporary stops will appear near the Church of the Nativity.

Consequently, tram routes will change. The operator will stop dispatch from the depot for lines 13, 19, 23, 33 and 77. Meanwhile, lines 16, 17, 18, 20 and 26 will follow altered paths. In addition, the city will launch temporary lines 63, 73 and 76. Finally, replacement buses Z26 and Z33 will run along the closed sections.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you live in Warsaw, follow ZTM (the city transit authority) updates. Also, buy and validate tickets in the same way you normally would. For newcomers: a “mandat” means a fine. PESEL is the Polish national ID number for residents. ZUS and NFZ are the social and health insurance institutions. Therefore, keep your validated ticket to avoid a fine. In addition, use local apps like Jakdojade for live routes and tram alternatives.

Pedestrians will also see changes. Specifically, crosswalks on all sides of the Kino Femina intersection will close. However, temporary crossings will appear by Ogrodowa and before Nowolipie on Aleja Jana Pawła II. Also, the city will open temporary zebra crossings near the church and the courts on Aleja “Solidarności”.

The second stage starts on August 3. Then, the tram traffic patterns will reverse. Consequently, the closed sections will shift towards Rondo ONZ and Femina. Finally, all track works will finish by the end of August, the city says.
