A planned demonstration outside the Prime Minister’s Chancellery will likely cause a major Warsaw traffic disruption on Monday, August 31. Drivers and bus passengers should expect detours and delays between 10:00 and 13:00.

Warsaw traffic disruption: what to expect

The gathering takes place in front of the Kancelaria Prezesa Rady Ministrów. Consequently, police may close parts of Aleje Ujazdowskie. Moreover, officers may restrict movement near Plac Na Rozdrożu. Therefore, authorities prepared alternative bus routes in advance. In addition, Warsaw Public Transport (WTP) published two detour scenarios. However, the police will decide final closures on the day.

Which bus lines will change and how

WTP says four popular lines may detour: 116, 166, 180 and 503. In the first scenario buses will avoid the closed section by using Aleja Jana Chrystiana Szucha. Consequently, they will run via Plac Unii Lubelskiej, Boya-Żeleńskiego, Goworka and Spacerowa. Moreover, WTP warns that trips could take longer under this route. In the second scenario authorities might close Plac Na Rozdrożu. Therefore, southbound services would leave Aleje Ujazdowskie earlier. They would then turn into Piękna. In addition, they would continue through Plac Konstytucji, Waryńskiego, Goworka and Spacerowa. However, the final pattern depends on the police on-duty that morning.

What drivers should plan for

Aleje Ujazdowskie form a key artery in the Śródmieście district. Consequently, closing them will raise traffic on nearby streets. Drivers should expect congestion around Plac Na Rozdrożu, Piękna, Plac Konstytucji, Waryńskiego, Goworka, Spacerowa and Plac Unii Lubelskiej. In addition, satnav apps will show new delays. Therefore, avoid the area if you can. Moreover, allow extra travel time for appointments scheduled between 10:00 and 13:00.

Timing and operational notes

The assembly has a three-hour window from 10:00 to 13:00. However, police may open or close streets depending on real-time risks. Consequently, closures might start later or end earlier. In addition, WTP may issue operational bus changes without advance notice. Therefore, check live updates before you leave. Moreover, watch for officers directing traffic at intersections.
