Macabre Find in Lutoryż Sparks Criminal Probe
A macabre discovery of fetal remains and medical waste in Lutoryż triggered a criminal probe by Rzeszów prosecutors.
The Rzeszów prosecutor’s office opened an inquiry after workers uncovered medical waste and the discovery of fetal remains on a private lot in Lutoryż. Consequently, investigators detained a 57-year-old pathomorphologist suspect as the probe expanded.
How the scene came to light
Neighbors reported unusual soil works. Moreover, contractors found glass slides and paraffin blocks during excavations. Therefore, owners contacted police on June 10, 2026. Investigators arrived quickly. In addition, they secured the area and called medical experts.
Discovery of fetal remains
Experts from forensic medicine examined the material. They confirmed the material included human fetal tissue. However, prosecutors still aim to identify the origin and timeline. Consequently, they continue forensic tests. In addition, they search for documentary evidence about how the material left clinical custody.
Who is under investigation and legal stakes
Prosecutors identified the previous seller of the lot. She worked as a pathomorphologist. Then, authorities detained 57-year-old Magdalena H. on June 12 in Zamość. Moreover, the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Rzeszów took over the case on the same day. Prosecutors charge possible violations of Article 262 of the Penal Code. These address desecration of remains and bear penalties up to two years in prison. In addition, they investigate Article 183 §5a. That article covers the abandonment of hazardous medical waste in unauthorized locations. Therefore, a conviction there can carry up to 12 years behind bars.
Ongoing evidence work and timeline
Investigators continue on-site inspections under prosecutor supervision. Consequently, they may work at the scene into next week. Moreover, they collect paraffin blocks, glass slides, and other lab materials. In addition, they will run DNA and histological tests. Furthermore, they will try to trace clinical records and waste chain documentation. Therefore, the authorities will decide after questioning the detained suspect. However, prosecutors have limited public comment for now.
