Lublin tourism vouchers sell out in 20 minutes

Lublin tourism vouchers worth 2.1 mln zł sold out in about 20 minutes; more rounds open in October and November.

In a dramatic morning rush, Lublin tourism vouchers worth 2.1 mln zł disappeared in around 20 minutes. Consequently, the first tranche of 7,000 vouchers sold out almost instantly.

Lublin tourism vouchers: first round and how it worked

The voucher covers 300 zł per stay, valid for at least two nights. Moreover, people must book directly with participating hotels or guesthouses. However, the voucher ties to a single person and cannot change hands, nor convert to cash. Therefore, travellers must present valid ID at check-in. In addition, the first-batch vouchers remain valid through September.

What the numbers mean and next chances

The region allocated a total of 3 million zł to the scheme. Moreover, the national Ministry provided 1.5 million zł, and the regional government matched that amount. Consequently, the ministry funds target residents aged 60 and over, plus holders of the Large Family Card. Meanwhile, the region funds cover other adult Polish residents.

Organisers announced two further issues. Therefore, on 1 October the portal will release 1,000 vouchers. In addition, on 2 November the system will publish 334 vouchers. However, unused vouchers may return to later rounds. Consequently, some applicants who missed the first batch can still obtain help.

Practical details for bookings and accommodations

About 150 accommodation providers already joined the scheme. Moreover, applications to join remain open. Therefore, more hotels and guesthouses can still participate. In addition, reservations must cover at least two nights. However, each voucher links to one named guest only. Consequently, families should register every eligible adult separately.

Organisers emphasise the list of providers changes. Moreover, first-round vouchers require direct booking and presentation of entitlement proof. Therefore, foreigners without a Polish PESEL (national ID number) should contact hotels early. In addition, carry your passport and any residency paperwork to avoid problems.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you are an expat, check whether you have a PESEL (Polish ID number) or alternative ID acceptable to the accommodation. Moreover, the voucher usually needs name matching the guest list, so book under the intended traveller. In addition, ask hotels if they accept passports in place of PESEL. Also, understand some Polish administrative terms: ZUS is social security, NFZ is the public health fund, PESEL is the national ID number, and mandat means a fine. Finally, if you are unsure, call the hotel directly before you book.

Regional officials stressed the programme aims to boost tourism in eastern Poland. Moreover, the move responds to lower demand near the border, partly because of the war in Ukraine. Consequently, they want to promote Lubelskie as safe and welcoming. In addition, they noted autumn colours make the region attractive for short breaks.

Last year Lubelskie attracted roughly 3.2 million visitors. However, local leaders say the area needs stable support. Therefore, they designed the vouchers to channel tourists into local guesthouses and small hotels. Moreover, that money helps rural businesses and seasonal employees.

For expats planning a trip, act quickly in future rounds. In addition, prepare ID and proof of eligibility when booking. Finally, keep an eye on participating properties as the list may grow.
