Lublin city centre disruptions will affect traffic and parking in the city this week. A large pilgrimage and a separate commemorative march will close streets and delay buses and trams.

Lublin city centre disruptions: pilgrimage and marches

The Archdiocese of Lublin will start a pilgrimage to Jasna Góra at about 10:00 from the Cathedral Square. Approximately 2,000 pilgrims will walk in 15 groups. Consequently, they will move along Królewska, Plac Króla Władysława Łokietka, Krakowskie Przedmieście, Plac Litewski, aleje Racławickie and aleja Kraśnicka. Moreover, the procession will head toward the border between Lublin and Konopnica. The walkers will use one traffic lane. Therefore, drivers should expect short delays and local congestion. In addition, public transport may run late on affected routes. Also, marshals and police will steer traffic. However, follow their instructions for safety.

What to expect from the commemorative march

Separately, organisers will hold a march to honour Józef Piłsudski’s legionnaires who fought at Jastków in 1915. The event will begin at 08:00 with wreaths at memorial plaques on the Town Hall. Then participants will walk Krakowskie Przedmieście to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Piłsudski monument. Around 09:00 the march will proceed to the municipal cemetery on Biała Street. The route will later cut through Okopowa, Lipowa, Ofiar Katynia and other streets. Consequently, this route will also occupy one traffic lane. Therefore, drivers and bus riders should plan extra time. Moreover, some stops may see revised timetables.

Castle Square closure and street changes

From 3 to 12 August the Castle Square (Plac Zamkowy) will close completely to traffic. In addition, officials will change access rules between 8 and 12 August. Also, the section of Kowalska Street between the square and Furmańska will close. Consequently, Podwale will become a dead-end with two-way local access. Moreover, paid parking spaces near the square will close temporarily. Therefore, motorists should use alternate parking or park outside the Old Town. Also, obey temporary signs and controllers at crossings.
