Łagów crash: Volkswagen hits tree, teen hospitalized

A Volkswagen ran off the road and struck a tree in Łagów on 17 October. The Łagów car crash sent a 16-year-old passenger and the 32-year-old driver to hospital.

A Volkswagen struck a roadside tree in Łagów on 17 October, injuring two people including a 16-year-old passenger. The Łagów car crash happened at about 16:00 in the village of Łagów in Gmina Przyłęk, Zwoleń County.

Łagów car crash: what the police say

Police from the Traffic Department of the County Police Headquarters in Zwoleń (Wydział Ruchu Drogowego Komendy Powiatowej Policji w Zwoleniu) responded to the scene. Emergency medical teams and the fire brigade had already begun rescue work when officers arrived. Officers say a 32-year-old local man likely lost control of the Volkswagen. The vehicle left the carriageway and hit a tree.

Both the driver and the 16-year-old passenger required hospital treatment. Asp. Katarzyna Słyk of the County Police Headquarters in Zwoleń told reporters, “Kierujący był trzeźwy. Został przewieziony do szpitala. Do szpitala trafiła także 16-letnia pasażerka”. Authorities say they will continue to investigate the exact circumstances and causes of the collision.

Local investigation and road safety reminders

Investigators will examine speed, road conditions, and whether any technical faults played a role. Police officers also reminded drivers to adapt speed to conditions, avoid sudden manoeuvres, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Those rules form the basic advice police issue after many single-vehicle accidents on rural roads.

What this means for residents and visitors

Single-vehicle crashes into trees often cause serious injuries. Rural roads in Poland frequently run close to trees and other hard roadside objects. That proximity increases injury risk when drivers lose control.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you are involved in a crash in Poland, call the emergency number 112. Police will normally attend and produce an official report you should keep for insurance claims. Emergency hospital treatment is provided through the national health system (NFZ) for those entitled to it. Keep identification and insurance details ready; Poland uses a national ID number (PESEL) in many administrative processes. If a minor needs care, authorities will involve guardians and the police. If you do not speak Polish, ask for translation support or contact your embassy. Also remember that a “mandat” means a fine issued by police for traffic offences.

For expats, understanding these basics can speed up administrative steps after an accident. You will likely need the police report for insurers and to explain the medical treatment path to your health provider. Also, contact your insurer as soon as possible and follow their instructions about vehicle repairs and documentation.

Police investigators in Zwoleń will publish further details when they finish their work. At this stage, they have not stated a definitive cause for the driver losing control of the vehicle.
