Katowice launches road upgrades in Bogucice and Janów

Katowice announces two road tenders worth over 2 million zł. Bogucice and Janów road works will upgrade streets, drainage and lighting.

KATOWICE — The city announced two new tender procedures for street reconstruction. The Bogucice and Janów road works will upgrade Leśnego Potoku and Łużycka streets, and the projects total over 2 million zł.

Planned work: Bogucice and Janów road works

The Municipal Board of Streets and Bridges published two separate tenders. The first covers Leśnego Potoku in Janów-Nikiszowiec. Consequently, crews will remove damaged sidewalk surfaces and driveways. Moreover, they will lay new concrete blocks on crushed stone bases. In addition, the city will replace curbs along the road. The works will affect about 260 metres of street. The project includes roughly 420 m² of sidewalks and 340 m² of driveways. Therefore, the administration estimates the cost at about 1 million zł gross. The city expects a contractor to finish the work within 65 days after site handover. Meanwhile, the contractor will keep traffic moving. However, drivers should expect local lane narrowings.

What happens on Łużycka street

The second tender covers Łużycka in Bogucice. The city will open bids on June 3. The plan calls for a new asphalt concrete roadway and concrete block sidewalks and driveways. In addition, the job will create parking spaces. Moreover, the contract includes a new street drainage system. The work will cover about 300 metres. The new roadway will be about 1,517 m². Also, sidewalks will total roughly 387 m². Driveways and parking areas will measure about 456 m². Consequently, residents can expect better surface quality and drainage after completion.

Why this matters for residents and expats

These projects aim to improve safety and daily comfort. Moreover, the city has been upgrading other streets recently. For example, crews recently worked on Śląska, Gościnna and Słonecznikowa streets. Therefore, Katowice shows a steady push to modernise local roads. However, works will bring temporary disruptions. In addition, expect parking bans, short detours and noise during daytime hours. Consequently, plan journeys ahead and watch local notices for bus reroutes. Also, traders and delivery services should check loading rules in work zones.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: Public tenders in Poland (“przetarg”) typically aim for transparency, and the city awards contracts to the best bid under procurement law. Contractors must register staff with ZUS (social insurance) and ensure health cover via NFZ (public health fund). If you break temporary parking rules you may receive a mandat (fine). Keep your PESEL (national ID number) handy when dealing with local administrations, as offices often request it for registrations or complaints.
