From April 11: Biedronka’s Card No Longer Enough

From April 11 Biedronka will require the Moja Biedronka app for some promos. Learn why the change matters for expats and how to prepare.

From April 11 shoppers will no longer get every discount with the plastic loyalty card alone. The new move requires the Moja Biedronka app for some offers, and therefore many customers may pay more unless they act. Consequently, this change marks a clear step toward a digital-first loyalty program.

What has changed and why it matters: Moja Biedronka app

Biedronka, Poland’s largest supermarket chain, launches a one-day promotional push on Saturday April 11. Moreover, the chain will place its deepest discounts behind the mobile app. For example, boneless pork ham will drop to 9.99 zł per kilogram. However, you can only buy that price with the app. In addition, Biedronka caps purchases at 5 kg per account. Therefore, customers who bring only the plastic card will not get the lowest price.

How the new offers work

Previously most promotions activated for both the physical card and the app. Now some deals will activate only after you open the app and enable the offer. Consequently, you must activate the discount before you reach the till. Also, some promotions will remain available to both card and app users. For instance, UHT milk at 1.49 zł per litre needs multiple packs and either card or app. Likewise, 2+2 snack deals will still give the free items to cardholders. However, the headline bargains will move into the app first. As a result, frequent shoppers should install the app to avoid surprises.

What this means for expats and casual shoppers

Many long-time customers still use only the plastic card. Meanwhile, new arrivals and tourists may not know the rules. Therefore, without the app you might pay more for identical goods. In addition, short, intense promotions like April 11’s event aim to drive app downloads. Consequently, expect the most attractive prices to appear behind app activation in future campaigns. Also, limits per account make sharing the same app account less useful.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you live here, download the Moja Biedronka app and register before shopping. Use a Polish mobile number if possible, and link a payment card or create an account with your email. Keep in mind Polish institutions when you set up services: ZUS is the social insurance office (ZUS handles pensions and contributions), NFZ stands for the National Health Fund (the public health insurer), and PESEL is the national ID number (PESEL identifies residents for many services). Therefore, having local details can speed verification. However, you can often use foreign bank cards and a foreign phone number for the app. Finally, always activate offers in the app at the store before the cashier scans items.

In short, from April 11 Biedronka pushes its loyalty program toward mobile users. Consequently, installing the app will become a simple way to save. Moreover, the change signals how retailers in Poland will nudge customers into digital wallets and personalised offers.
