Fiat and Volvo collision in Felin disrupts evening traffic

A Fiat and Volvo collision in Felin injured no one seriously, but police investigate the cause and traffic was blocked.

A Fiat and Volvo collision in Felin injured no one seriously, but it disrupted evening traffic on July 13. Emergency teams and police attended the scene and investigators began work shortly after.

What happened on Franczaka “Lalka” street

The crash occurred at about 20:30 on Monday, July 13. A woman driving a Fiat pulled out from a road serving nearby apartment blocks. However, she did not yield right of way. Consequently her car struck a Volvo that travelled along Franczaka “Lalka” toward Kalinówka. Moreover, local fire crews, ambulance teams, and police units reached the junction quickly. Paramedics treated the people involved on site. Fortunately, no one required hospitalisation.

Police traffic officers, known locally as drogówka, now handle the investigation. Therefore the officers will interview witnesses and inspect the vehicles for damage. Moreover they will check for CCTV from nearby buildings. In addition they will determine whether to issue a fine or start further legal action. Drivers in Poland can receive a mandat (a fine) and penalty points for traffic violations. Furthermore insurers will work on liability and damage claims after the report finishes.

Local context and why it matters for expats

Felin forms a residential area on Lublin’s eastern side. Consequently many residents use Franczaka “Lalka” at peak times. Therefore accidents there can cause evening congestion. In addition the junction with Dobrzańskiego serves many apartment entrances. Thus motorists who do not know the layout might misjudge gaps in traffic. Moreover Polish drivers often expect others to yield by common practice. However legal priority always follows road signs and markings.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you are involved in a crash in Poland, call 112 for emergencies. Next, call the police when injuries or significant damage occur. For paperwork, exchange insurance details and a driving licence. Note that OC insurance covers third-party liability. If you plan to use public healthcare, bring your EHIC or proof of coverage with NFZ (National Health Fund). Keep photos of the scene for claims. Also remember that a mandat means a fine, and policemen will record details in an official report. Finally having your PESEL (national ID number) helps in local procedures, but foreigners can still handle claims with passport numbers and insurer information.
