Fatal hit-and-run in Siekierzyńce: police seek witnesses

A fatal hit-and-run in Siekierzyńce left a 46-year-old woman dead. Police seek dashcam footage and witnesses for the criminal probe.

A fatal hit-and-run in Siekierzyńce left a 46-year-old woman dead on the roadside last night. Consequently, police in Hrubieszów are urgently seeking the driver and asking for help from witnesses and dashcam owners.

What happened

The incident occurred on the road between the villages of Siekierzyńce and Oszczów. Moreover, officers say the woman walked on the road shoulder while pushing a blue bicycle. At some point, a vehicle struck her and did not stop. Therefore, emergency services arrived after a passerby called at about 22:00. However, medics could not save her life and she died at the scene.

Hit-and-run in Siekierzyńce: police appeal for dashcam footage

Police investigators now try to identify the vehicle and the driver. In addition, they request recordings from car dashcams. The Hrubieszów County Police ask drivers who used that route yesterday evening to check their footage. Also, younger aspirant Beata Kieliszek publicly appealed for help. Consequently, investigators say any clip may help reconstruct the collision and find the culprit.

Investigation and local context

The local police lead a criminal inquiry into a fatal traffic accident. Moreover, hit-and-run cases that result in death carry serious penalties in Poland. Therefore, officers will check CCTV, witness statements, and vehicle traces. Additionally, the probe may involve an autopsy and technical reconstruction. The case is handled by Hrubieszów police because the crash happened in their jurisdiction. In addition, rural roads in eastern Poland sometimes lack street lighting. Therefore, pedestrians or cyclists often face higher risks on such stretches.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you live in Poland as an expat, you should know how to act after witnessing an accident. First, call 112 for any emergency. Second, preserve dashcam footage and contact police at the local number 47 815 32 10. Third, file a witness statement if asked. Moreover, you may need to share identity information such as your PESEL (national ID number) only when officials request it. In addition, understand local institutions: NFZ is the national health fund that pays for emergency care, and ZUS is the social insurance institution handling benefits. Finally, a “mandat” means a fine for minor offenses, but leaving the scene of a fatal crash leads to criminal charges, not a simple fine.

If you saw the crash or have useful information, call 112 immediately. Alternatively, contact the duty desk at the Hrubieszów County Police at 47 815 32 10. Consequently, officers urge anyone who passed between Siekierzyńce and Oszczów last night to check dashcam files.

Police stress that community tips often solve such cases. Moreover, a single short clip can reveal vehicle make, colour, or a partial plate. Therefore, do not assume your footage is irrelevant.
