Dream of the City wows Lublin

“Dream of the City” returns to Lublin Castle with sold-out nights and added pandemic and war scenes.

"Dream of the City" returns to Lublin Castle for five sold-out nights, connecting circus arts to city history. Moreover, director Janusz Opryński and designer Jarosław Koziara revive the sun sculpture and new wartime and pandemic scenes.

Dream of the City at Lublin Castle

The run takes place on August 13-17 at 20:00 in the castle courtyard. Moreover, the production uses Józef Czechowicz’s Poem about Lublin as its dramaturgical spine. In addition, Dorota Landowska performs the poem with acclaimed skill. Furthermore, Zbyszek Dziduch narrates historical passages with a voice known across Poland. Also, Rafał Rozmus composed the original score. Consequently, the team sold roughly eight thousand tickets and calls the run a full sell-out.

The sun, the rigging and the safety behind the spectacle

Jarosław Koziara built a thirteen-meter sun as the visual center. Moreover, the sun acts as a witness to the city’s past and future. In addition, Koziara anchored multiton water weights inside towers for slackline tension. Therefore, safety remains a constant priority for the team. Furthermore, crew members monitor wind and adjust loads immediately. Also, four large containers hold almost four tons each. Consequently, performers execute high-risk circus moves on secure lines. Moreover, the production uses mapping, light, and acoustic design. Therefore, the final tableau aims to feel like both ritual and celebration.

Why this matters to newcomers

Lublin sits near Poland’s eastern border. Moreover, the city absorbs regional shifts from culture and geopolitics. In addition, Lublin hosted many Ukrainian refugees since 2022. Consequently, the show now includes pandemic and wartime chapters. Furthermore, the production nods to Lublin’s selection as European Capital of Culture 2029. Therefore, the spectacle serves as cultural memory and civic claim. Also, the show shows how local art can boost tourism and local pride.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: For expats, Lublin events often sell out quickly. Buy tickets early from official outlets. Moreover, public shows use outdoor courtyards and limited seating. Also, most signage appears in Polish. Therefore, bring a translation app if you need help. In addition, Polish institutions use terms you should know: ZUS (social security office), NFZ (public health insurer), PESEL (national ID number used for many registrations), and mandat (police fine). Furthermore, public transport uses buses and trams in some cities. Finally, carry ID and a credit card. The performance relies on visual staging, so language limits matter less for non-Polish speakers.
