Chase and Arrests After Construction Site Thefts

Police in Jaworzno arrested two suspects after a chase linked to construction site thefts. Losses exceed 200,000 zł.

Police in Jaworzno arrested two men after a police chase tied to construction site thefts. The suspects now face charges and three months in pre-trial detention.

Construction site thefts: chase and arrests

Investigators in Jaworzno led a probe into repeated fuel thefts and burglaries at building sites. Moreover, the incidents happened across both Jaworzno and the Lesser Poland region. The suspects stole fuel from heavy machinery and took portable equipment. Their haul included generators, compactors, laser levels, and power tools. Police estimate losses at more than 200,000 zł. Consequently, local construction projects suffered delays and extra costs.

How the arrest unfolded

Officers tracked leads for weeks. Then, on 17 March, police tried to stop a car linked to the thefts. However, the driver fled and a short pursuit followed. The vehicle lost control and hit a roadside pole. Several people tried to run away on foot. Police quickly detained them. During the search, officers found mephedrone and marijuana. In addition, they found fuel cans, pumps, and burglary tools. Investigators also seized more drugs at one suspect’s home. Therefore, detectives believe the suspects acted in a repeated pattern.

Charges and court action

The prosecutor charged the two men with burglary, fuel theft, and possession of large quantities of drugs. Moreover, the court imposed temporary detention for three months. The men face up to ten years in prison. In addition, police noted both suspects had prior convictions for property crimes. Consequently, detectives do not rule out further arrests as the case develops.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you work near construction sites, lock machinery and drainable fuel tanks when possible. Report crimes to the police by calling 112 for emergencies. However, for non-emergency local order issues, you can contact the municipal guard (Straż Miejska). Also, keep a copy of the police report for insurance claims. In Poland, a “mandat” means an on-the-spot fine. Your national ID number is called a PESEL. ZUS is the social insurance institution and NFZ runs state health insurance. Therefore, save contact details for your insurer and note the police report number for claims.

For expats, the case highlights practical risks. Construction gear remains an attractive target for thieves. Moreover, fuel theft removes essential resources and stops work. Therefore, employers and foreign workers should log serial numbers and use visible marking. Also use simple security measures, like good lighting and CCTV, where possible. In addition, GPS trackers and immobilisers help protect high-value equipment. Finally, keep receipts and inventory lists for any claim.

Police recommend that anyone with information contact the Jaworzno criminal unit. Moreover, witnesses can often help connect suspects to other offences. Consequently, this investigation may expand in the coming weeks.
