Another Heat Wave Approaches Poland

Poland heat wave alert: three models show intense heat across Warsaw and the nation this weekend. Plan ahead and check updates.

A new Poland heat wave is heading for Warsaw and most of the country, meteorological agencies confirm. Moreover, three independent forecasting systems all point to a clear warming trend over the coming days.

Forecast snapshot: Poland heat wave from west to east

The national meteorological service, IMGW, expects warming to begin on Thursday. Consequently, western and southern areas will reach 26-27 degrees Celsius. In addition, Friday will see heat spread across much of Poland. Therefore, coastal regions and Lubusz may hit near 29 degrees.

Moreover, IMGW calls Saturday the day of the strongest heat. Accordingly, most stations will report temperatures above 30 degrees. However, the warm spell will not be uniform. In addition, the south-west could see local highs near 34 degrees.

European and American models show shifts in timing and location

Furthermore, the European ECMWF model predicts a peak on Sunday for many areas. Consequently, the ECMWF shows spot values of 35-36 degrees Celsius. In addition, it shifts the main heat toward the south-east by Monday.

However, the US GFS model draws a different map. It centers the highest risk over the southern belt. Therefore, GFS suggests many places will record 34-35 degrees on Sunday. Moreover, some points could briefly reach 36-37 degrees.

How to read differing forecasts and what to plan

Do not treat one forecast as the single truth. Instead, use the three models as a range of likely outcomes. Consequently, plan outdoor work and high-effort activities for Thursday or early Friday. Moreover, expect meteorological warnings from IMGW two to three days before extreme heat.

In Warsaw, for example, realistic temperatures this weekend range from about 30 degrees to the mid-30s. Therefore, organizers should move heavy tasks earlier. In addition, residents should prepare hydration, cooling and shaded rest areas.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: IMGW (the national weather institute) issues official alerts in Poland. In an emergency call 112 for medical or public-safety help. Moreover, public healthcare runs through the NFZ (National Health Fund), so bring proof of coverage. In addition, non-Polish residents should keep ID and PESEL if they have it, or a passport and private insurance card if not. Employers normally adapt work schedules during heat; therefore, ask your manager about breaks and water on site. Also, never leave children or pets in a parked car. Police or municipal officers can act and fines (mandat) may apply for dangerous neglect.

Consequently, expats should monitor IMGW, ECMWF and GFS updates. In addition, use weather apps and local news to track shifting hot spots. Moreover, carry water, wear light clothing, and limit midday outdoor exercise. Therefore, people with chronic conditions should contact their GP or the hospital via NFZ or private clinics if needed.

Finally, treat current differences between models as normal. Forecasting uses different data, grids and physics. Therefore, expect small adjustments as the event nears. Moreover, all models agree on the clear direction: noticeably warmer days lie ahead for Poland and its major cities.
