Saska Kępa Closed for Playoff at PGE Narodowy

Saska Kępa will close for the Poland vs Albania match tomorrow; expect road closures and extra public transport in Warsaw.

Tomorrow evening Warsaw will host a crucial playoff game and the Poland vs Albania match will kick off at 20:45. Consequently, the city will enforce wide traffic restrictions around PGE Narodowy, and Saska Kępa will temporarily close.

Road closures and transport changes for Poland vs Albania match

Officials will restrict vehicle access on Saska Kępa between 18:30 and 20:45. The restricted area uses Aleja Poniatowskiego, Aleja Waszyngtona, Międzynarodowa, Aleja Stanów Zjednoczonych, Wał Miedzeszyński, Afrykańska and Bora-Komorowskiego. Therefore only cars with SK permits, taxis, motorcycles and public transport vehicles may enter.

Police may close Sokola Street from Zamoście to Wybrzeże Szczecińskie around 18:30. In that case bus lines 102, 125 and 202 will terminate at Dworzec Wschodni (Kijowska). Moreover buses 146 and 147 will detour via Wybrzeże Szczecińskie. However if closures widen to include Sokola, Zamoście and Zamoyskiego, bus 135 will run via Targowa. Consequently 146 and 147 will use Aleja Zieleniecka.

What to expect after the final whistle

Services may close the Most Poniatowskiego and parts of Aleje Jerozolimskie from around 22:30. Consequently authorities will reroute many buses and trams. Buses 111, 117, 158, 166, 507 and 521 will use Most Łazienkowski. In addition night lines N22, N24 and N72 will shift there. The city will run a temporary bus Z99 between Rondo Wiatraczna and Plac Narutowicza.

Tram routes will change as well. Tram 7 will run along the W-Z route. Meanwhile lines 9, 22 and 24 will split their runs. Specifically trams from Śródmieście will end at Plac Starynkiewicza. Meanwhile trams from Praga will terminate near Teatr Powszechny and Rondo Wiatraczna respectively.

Practical travel advice and crowd management

Organisers urge fans to use public transport instead of private cars. Therefore ticket holders, invitees and UEFA accredited people ride free in Zone 1 on ZTM services. Moreover the city will run extra buses 138 to Bokserska and 509 to Gocław and Winnica from Rondo Waszyngtona after the match. In addition Warsaw will increase service frequency on metro line M2 and add tram sets for lines 9 and 26.

Expect heavy pedestrian flows near stadium exits. Consequently police and stewards will manage crossings and access points. Moreover security checks will slow entry. Therefore arrive early if you plan to attend. However if you live nearby you should avoid driving into the area.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you are an expat, buy or show your match ticket to ride free on ZTM in Zone 1. In Poland public transport uses ZTM as the city operator. In addition remember that local IDs such as PESEL (national identification number) and systems like NFZ (National Health Fund) or ZUS (social insurance) differ from other countries. Therefore keep your passport or residence card handy when you travel to official checkpoints. Also note a “mandat” means a fine, and police may issue one for parking violations. Finally plan your return trip, because bridges and main roads may close briefly after the match.

Consequently the event will affect both residents and visitors. Therefore check ZTM live updates and allow more time for journeys. Moreover use metro and trams where possible, as they usually handle crowds better. However always carry a contact number for your embassy or local support if you need help.
