30th Golden Hundred ranking: Three decades of Lublin business

The 30th Golden Hundred ranking celebrates three decades of Lublin business and maps regional economic strength for expats and investors.

The Dziennik Wschodni has launched the 30th Golden Hundred ranking, marking thirty years of tracking Lublin’s biggest companies. Consequently, the edition will celebrate business resilience and change across the region.

Golden Hundred ranking: a regional economic barometer

When journalists at Dziennik Wschodni began the first edition in the late 1990s, they wanted a reliable list of the region’s largest firms. Moreover, the region then faced rapid economic transition. Private companies grew. Family businesses expanded. Meanwhile, many state-owned plants adapted to market rules.

The project founder, the late editor Marek Gędek, shaped the concept. Therefore, the ranking became one of the most recognised economic projects in eastern Poland. Over time, companies sought inclusion as a badge of credibility and stability.

How the list reflects three decades of change

Over thirty years, the entries have shown sectoral shifts. Consequently, the list moved from heavy industry to food processing, logistics, construction and modern tech. In addition, energy and services gained importance. Some firms from early lists still lead their sectors. However, many new companies rose quickly.

Recently, entrepreneurs faced extraordinary pressure. For example, the COVID-19 pandemic hit supply chains. Moreover, inflation and rising energy costs squeezed margins. In addition, the war in Ukraine altered export routes. Despite this, many Lublin firms invested and entered new markets.

What the 30th edition will do

The jubilee edition will celebrate history and honour contributors. Moreover, the gala will award special distinctions to companies and individuals shaping regional growth. The main ranking will rely on revenues reported for 2025. Therefore, the editorial team asks firms to complete a questionnaire.

Companies may provide full data or report only revenues. Consequently, the survey aims to create the most accurate picture of the region’s economy. Furthermore, the editorial team will prepare an exclusive anniversary publication documenting three decades of the ranking.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you run or join a Polish company, expect common local rules. For example, ZUS means the social insurance institution that collects pension and health contributions. NFZ denotes the National Health Fund, which funds public healthcare. PESEL refers to the national ID number used for many administrative tasks. In addition, companies register in CEIDG (sole traders) or KRS (companies). Therefore, providing revenue figures to a ranking is normal. However, always check confidentiality terms first.

The ranking helps many audiences. For locals, it highlights employers and sectors that drive growth. For expats and investors, it identifies strong partners and suppliers. Moreover, the list offers insight into which industries adapt best to shocks.

To participate, firms can download the questionnaire from the paper’s website. Therefore, managers should prepare revenue figures for 2025. In addition, smaller firms that avoid full disclosure may still submit revenues only.

For thirty years, the Golden Hundred ranking documented the region’s entrepreneurial story. Consequently, this anniversary edition will both record history and point to future opportunities. Therefore, stakeholders and newcomers should watch the results closely.
