Seven Arrested in CBA Probe of Foreign Ministry Contracts

A CBA investigation led to seven arrests over alleged bribery and rigged tenders tied to Foreign Ministry contracts.

Seven people were arrested after a CBA investigation into alleged irregularities in contracts for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The probe involves suspected bribery and rigged tenders for projects, including audits of investments in Ukraine.

CBA investigation: arrests and key facts

Moreover, Central Anti-Corruption Bureau agents detained suspects on April 14 and 21, 2026. They acted in several regions. Operations covered Małopolska, Mazovia and West Pomerania. Police also detained one person at Chopin Airport in Warsaw. Additionally, among the seven were entrepreneurs, a municipal company board member and a court expert (biegły). In addition, investigators seized documents, electronic devices, cash and gold coins worth about 208,000 zł. Moreover, the investigation covers two main threads. First, alleged bribery paid to a former municipal company president. Second, a tender at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for auditing Ukrainian investments. Consequently, prosecutors annulled the tender after finding signs of leaked information to selected firms.

Legal process and what happens next

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw supervises the case. Furthermore, prosecutors charged the detained persons. They requested pre-trial detention for three suspects. The court ordered detention for two. The court allowed the third to remain free after posting bail. Therefore, other measures apply to four suspects. These include travel bans, police supervision and contact prohibitions. In addition, the CBA stressed that this is an early stage. The agency may carry out more actions. Note that Polish criminal law allows a limited escape from punishment. Article 229 §6 of the Criminal Code lets a perpetrator avoid penalty if they self-report the offence before authorities learn about it. Also, Polish institutions use abbreviations you may meet. For example, ZUS means social security, NFZ means national health fund, and PESEL means national ID number.

Regional scope and why expats should care

Importantly, this case matters beyond Warsaw. The contracts affect services and works both in Poland and abroad. For example, faulty procurement can delay repairs at embassies and consulates. Consequently, consular services may slow down. Moreover, contracts can affect safety and access at diplomatic sites. Therefore, transparency in tenders remains crucial. Therefore, CBA invited the public to share information. However, the investigation will likely develop in stages. Expect further updates in the coming weeks.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you rely on embassy services, monitor official updates. Report suspicious conduct to the CBA or to your embassy. Keep copies of any dealings with state institutions, and ask for receipts. For legal help, consult a lawyer who knows Polish law. Remember that prosecutions follow prosecutors and courts, not agencies alone.
