Key Warsaw Street Closed from Saturday, Major Detours
Patriotów street closure begins Saturday; expect major detours and bus reroutes affecting Wawra, Radość and Falenica commuters.
Patriotów street closure begins Saturday morning, April 18, 2026. Consequently thousands of drivers and public transport users will face new detours and delays.
What is changing and why it matters
The city will close the eastern carriageway of ul. Patriotów near Radość and Falenica. Moreover the crossing at ul. Izbicka will also close. Therefore the traffic will move onto the opposite carriageway for weeks. In addition rail workers start main construction on the so-called Otwock line that day. As a result many commuters toward Wawer, Radość and Falenica face a different daily commute.
Patriotów street closure: immediate impact on drivers
Drivers will see signage and temporary lanes from about 09:00 on Saturday. However many people may not expect the change during the busy weekend. Consequently congestion can build quickly since this corridor reacts badly to small disruptions. Moreover local side streets will fill with diverted traffic. Therefore you should check your route before you leave. In addition consider leaving earlier or later to avoid peak jams.
How buses and local transport will be affected
Transport operators will reroute several key bus lines. Line 115 will use a temporary crossing in Radość and then follow the South Warsaw Bypass. In addition line 213 will not cross to the eastern side. Instead it will run via Panna Wodna, Zasadowa and Wał Miedzeszyński. Moreover line 161 will shorten some trips and return near ul. Radłowska. Meanwhile line 142 will resume its basic route but with local tweaks near Patriotów. Also authorities will add line 229 to cover missing segments near PKP Falenica. Therefore passengers must check timetables and stop locations before travel.
Wider context: this is part of a major rail upgrade
The work continues an extensive upgrade of the Otwock rail line. In fact trains already do not run between Warszawa Wawer and Otwock from April 12 to 26. Consequently these closures are part of a deliberate phased plan. Moreover the scale shows this project will reshape local travel for months. Therefore expect more temporary changes as crews complete upgrades.
