Last night a 19-year-old driver crash occurred on national road 62 near Chociszewo.

The Volkswagen left the road, hit a tree, and rolled onto its roof.

What happened

The accident happened after 21:30 on a bend in the road. The 19-year-old drove toward Zakroczym. He lost control on the curve. The car moved onto the left shoulder. It struck a roadside tree. Then the vehicle rolled over. The driver travelled alone. He remained sober at the scene. Police took him to Płońsk hospital with injuries. The road is a regional connector with mixed traffic. Chociszewo sits in Płońsk county, in Masovian Voivodeship. Consequently, many locals use this road after dark.

Police response and investigation

Police officers from Płońsk district investigated the scene quickly. They cordoned the lane and managed traffic. Consequently, investigators collect evidence and witness statements. Moreover, officers will check speed and vehicle condition. Investigators also will check for mechanical faults. However, formal causes remain under review. Authorities appeal to drivers to adjust speed to conditions and to keep safe distances. In addition, police remind drivers to avoid risky overtakes on bends.

Why the 19-year-old driver crash matters

The crash shows clear risks for novice drivers. Young drivers often lack experience on rural roads. In addition, trees often sit close to narrow lanes in Poland. Therefore, small mistakes can cause severe outcomes. Novice drivers face a two-year probationary period after passing their test. Moreover, a serious crash can affect insurance premiums heavily. Therefore, young drivers should expect higher costs after collisions. Also, the crash may prompt local road safety reviews at the bend. Police appeal to all drivers for caution and patience on such routes.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: In Poland call 112 for any road emergency. The Policja (police) will come and make a report. The public health fund (NFZ) covers urgent hospital care for insured residents. Therefore, EU visitors should use an EHIC card. However, non-EU expats should keep private health insurance. Your car must have OC insurance (third-party liability) at all times. A “mandat” means a fine issued by police. “PESEL” is your national ID number used in many procedures. ZUS handles pensions and social contributions. File a police report to claim insurance. Therefore, save photos and witness contacts for your insurer.
