Planned Power Cuts Hit Mazovia — What Expats Should Know

Planned power outages in Mazovia will affect Warsaw districts and nearby towns. Check schedules and prepare devices.

Residents of Warsaw and many towns across Mazovia should prepare now for planned power cuts. The wave of power outages in Mazovia will affect parts of the city and neighbouring gminas, sometimes lasting a whole day.

Where to expect power outages in Mazovia

The utility companies have published a schedule that started on April 8. Consequently, the schedule names many Warsaw districts and several small towns. In Włochy outages will hit Muszkieterów, Rękodzielnicza and Sycowska streets. Moreover, Białołęka residents should expect interruptions on Modlińska, Pochyła and Poetów. On April 9 the cuts will affect Aleksandra Fleminga, Duninów, Kazimierza Pułaskiego and Rozewska. In addition, a long interruption may hit the Syta area almost all day. On April 10 teams will work near Działy and Połączona. Therefore, Pragę Południe faces trouble around Fieldorfa Nila, Ostrobramska and Zamieniecka on April 11. Furthermore, the schedule lists a section of Puławska on April 13 and a wider roll on April 14.

Which towns outside Warsaw will lose power

However, the problem does not stop at the capital. The planned work covers Mała Wieś, Nowy Duninów, Słupno, Stara Biała, Brudzeń Duży and Maszewo Duże. Consequently, some gminas will face repeated cuts on several days. Thus, farmers, business owners and commuters must plan ahead. Also, shops and services may close or run on limited hours. In many villages the crew will modernize lines to serve new customers and to improve future reliability.

Why the outages matter and what the upgrades mean

The companies work to modernize the distribution network. Therefore, the long term result should be fewer breakdowns and room for new connections. However, in the short term the outages will disrupt daily life. For example, many apartments rely on electric heating. Moreover, remote workers will lose Internet access if routers lack battery backup. In addition, shops use electronic tills. Consequently, some businesses may need cash or generator backups. Emergency services will remain operational, but non-urgent appointments may move or delay.

Practical tips and immediate steps

First, check the operator’s schedule for your address. Also, charge phones, laptops and power banks ahead of time. In addition, save work locally and inform your employer about possible downtime. Therefore, plan any online meetings around the announced hours. Furthermore, protect sensitive equipment by unplugging it when the power returns. Finally, if you rely on electric heating, arrange alternative warmth or temporary accommodation.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you live in Poland as an expat, register and check local messages before outages. You may need a PESEL (national ID number) for some local services. Also know ZUS (social security) and NFZ (public health insurer) handle many benefits online. Moreover, keep your residency papers and emergency contacts digitized. Finally, note that a “mandat” means a fine in Poland; you must still follow parking and local rules even during maintenance.
