Hybrid buses arrive in Lublin

Five of twenty hybrid buses have arrived in Lublin, funded by EU money. hybrid buses will enter service after tests and training.

The city of Lublin has received five of twenty new hybrid buses. The arrival marks the first time hybrid buses join the municipal fleet.

What arrived and when

The new vehicles are 18 metre articulated models. Moreover, each bus can carry up to 120 passengers. In addition, 40 seats sit inside each vehicle. The buses use a plug-in system that pairs a combustion engine with an electric motor. Consequently, they cut fuel use and lower exhaust emissions in city traffic.

Features and passenger amenities

The buses come fully low-floor. Therefore they suit passengers with reduced mobility. Moreover, they include CCTV and audible stop announcements. In addition, they have ticket machines and passenger counters. The vehicles also offer air conditioning and USB charging ports. Furthermore, designers added bike-friendly fittings. Consequently the new units respond to modern commuter needs.

hybrid buses: delivery and rollout plan

Weronika Opasiak, a spokeswoman for MPK Lublin, said the company accepted the first five units. Then staff will start technical checks and prepare the buses for service. Moreover, the maker will deliver the remaining vehicles in the coming weeks. All units should arrive by the end of April. In addition, the contract includes two mobile chargers that the operator will use with the new fleet. Therefore MPK expects a phased introduction into scheduled lines after acceptance tests and driver training.

Funding and local context

The purchase gained support from European funds for the Lublin region. The subsidy exceeded 43 million złoty. Consequently the city reduced its direct capital outlay. Moreover, such EU-backed deals aim to modernize regional transport under the 2021–2027 programme. In addition, this investment aligns with broader Polish efforts to lower urban pollution and improve public transport quality.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you live in Lublin, expect gradual timetable changes as the operator integrates the new fleet. Buy tickets at machines on board or use popular apps like Jakdojade to plan trips. Also note Polish everyday terms: PESEL (your national ID number), ZUS (social insurance), NFZ (national health insurer) and mandat (fine). Carry a valid ticket to avoid a mandat. In addition, many buses are low-floor and help passengers with strollers or wheelchairs. Finally, check MPK Lublin announcements for exact launch dates and line allocations.

For expats, the change matters beyond cleaner air. New buses often mean more reliable service and better comfort on longer commutes. Moreover, improved passenger counting helps the operator plan frequencies. Therefore travelers and daily commuters can expect gradual improvements in punctuality and capacity. In addition, bike-friendly fittings support mixed trips by bike and bus. Consequently the city hopes to reduce car trips and ease central congestion.

MPK and the supplier will complete acceptance checks and staff training in the coming weeks. Then the vehicles will appear on selected routes. Therefore riders should watch local notices and MPK social channels for rollout details.
